Raising Money for Brain Cancer Research
This May, Im going to be challenging myself to run ‘10km every day for the month of May’, with the goal of raising $10,000 towards the Brain Cancer Australia Foundation.
This cause became personal for me after hearing Blake Davenport’s situation. Blake was diagnosed with brain cancer at just 21, a reality that no one should have to face. Blake went to the same high school as me, and through mutual friends and the local community, his journey has had a real impact on a lot of people, including myself. It brought to light how unfair, harsh and unpredictable cancer can be.
Taking on this challenge is my way of showing support, raising awareness, and trying to help raise money for research, in the hope that one day families like the Davenports who are going through something they never asked for, won’t have to.
Brain cancer is still one of the most under-researched forms of cancer, making continued research and support important to help out Blake and the thousands of young Australians and families facing similar battles.
If this challenge can help raise awareness and contribute even in a small way to funding research, then it’s worth every step. Every dollar brings us closer to better treatment options and, hopefully one day, a cure.
Myself and the support of the Davenport family felt this would be a powerful way to bring the community together for a meaningful cause, while also using the growing popularity of running as a vehicle to raise money for brain cancer research.
I’ll be running 10km each day throughout May, starting at 6:30pm, from Rofe Park Hornsby to Crosslands Gate in Hornsby Heights and back.
Anyone is welcome to join for part or all of the run.
If you’re able to contribute, it would mean a great deal, not just to me, but to everyone impacted by brain cancer.
