Brain Cancer Australia is pleased to welcome Simon Footit to its Board, bringing nearly four decades of experience across global financial markets and a personal drive to progress brain cancer research.
Simon has held senior roles with major international investment banks including Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan and Bank of America, working across Sydney, Singapore and New York. He has led institutional equities businesses at an executive level and brings extensive expertise in capital markets, strategy and stakeholder engagement.
His decision to join the Board is driven by personal experience.
Earlier in his career, Simon brought a colleague to Singapore to join his team. Not long after, this young colleague was diagnosed with brain cancer and passed away, leaving behind his wife and two small children.
“It was a loss that stayed with me, and now that I have the time to contribute, I want to make a difference for others facing the devastating reality of brain cancer," says Simon.
More recently, his wife’s experience with breast cancer highlighted the power of data in guiding treatment. Her biopsy was sent to the United States for detailed analysis, providing clear insight into which treatments were most likely to be effective.
“Brain Cancer Australia is focused on building the systems that make that same progress possible for brain cancer — data, shared tissue samples, and collaboration. That’s where I think real impact can be made,” he said.
“I’m looking forward to helping the organisation reach the next level.”
Brain Cancer Australia Founder and Director Robyn Leonard OAM said Simon’s experience and commitment would be a strong addition to the Board.
“Simon brings both strategic insight and a genuine drive to make a difference,” she said. “We’re delighted to welcome him.”
