Honouring Mary Macha AM's wish | Brain Cancer Australia

“Mary’s contribution will help us work towards a day when every person diagnosed with brain cancer can hear the words: ‘There’s more we can do for you.’”

Robyn Leonard OAM

Mary Macha AM wanted the proceeds of her estate to help find a cure for brain cancer. Her estate has now made a gift to Brain Cancer Australia, and we're honoured to play a part in carrying out her wish.

Mary was a trailblazer in supporting Aboriginal artists, heading Aboriginal Traditional Arts in Perth from 1973 and later running her own art consultancy.

She lost her son and only child to brain cancer in 2016. Mary died six months later, aged 94, in 2017.

The gift will support our work to build the brain cancer research infrastructure that's been missing for far too long.

Brain Cancer Australia Founder and Director, Robyn Leonard OAM, said Mary’s commitment to making a difference, both during her lifetime and through her legacy was inspiring.

“Like Mary, I lost a child to brain cancer and witnessed the cruelty of this terrible disease. Mary’s contribution will help us work towards a day when every person diagnosed with brain cancer can hear the words: ‘There’s more we can do for you.’”

We're deeply grateful for Mary's generosity.
