Jane's Story

“Brain cancer is a victim of the fact it is so lethal. There are so few survivors left to advocate. The lack of funding and progress doesn’t surprise me.”

Jane Adams

Jane’s story brings meaning to CommBank’s support for brain cancer research.

Fifteen years after losing her dad to brain cancer, CommBank’s Jane Adams was moved to learn that a CommBank Staff Foundation Community Grant – funded by employees through workplace giving – had been awarded to Brain Cancer Australia.

Her father was 67 and in good health when a sudden medical episode revealed a glioblastoma. He passed away less than a year later.

“Brain cancer is a victim of the fact it is so lethal,” Jane said. “There are so few survivors left to advocate. The lack of funding and progress doesn’t surprise me.”

Brain cancer still has one of the lowest survival rates of all cancers – but with the right infrastructure and investment, progress is possible.

“It helps knowing the grant is going to an organisation trying to change the future for brain cancer patients,” said Jane. “I absolutely think we’re on the cusp of technology being able to do something.”

The CommBank Staff Foundation is powered by employee donations, matched by the bank, to support community organisations making an impact. For Brain Cancer Australia, this support helps accelerate national research infrastructure that can improve patient outcomes.

We're grateful to Jane and to all CommBank employees who contribute through workplace giving.
