Alex's HYROX Challenge

"This fundraiser is my way of helping other families facing the same fight."

Alex Minglis

This week marks 10 years since Alex Minglis lost his uncle Tim to brain cancer. To honour his memory, Alex is taking on HYROX Istanbul this weekend – a gruelling fitness race that combines an 8km run with eight challenging workout stations.

For Alex, the challenge is about much more than fitness. He's also raising money for Brain Cancer Australia in Tim's memory.

"Tim was more than an uncle – he was a second dad to me and my brothers," he said.

"He taught us how to drive, he made us laugh, and he showed us how to live with resilience. Even after being diagnosed with stage IV glioblastoma, he never complained or whined about pain. He faced everything with quiet strength."

Tim died just one year after being diagnosed with glioblastoma, the most aggressive form of brain cancer.

"In Istanbul, I'm committed to pushing through the pain barriers again and beating my Sydney time. I’m racing solo for Tim – because the physical pain, the grind, the fight to keep moving forward, is something you face alone. It's my way of honouring the resilience Tim showed every day."

By taking on the challenge, Alex hopes to make a difference for other families facing brain cancer.

"Supporting brain cancer research matters to me because I saw firsthand how brutal this disease is and how quickly it can take someone you love. This fundraiser is my way of helping other families facing the same fight."

Every dollar raised will help Brain Cancer Australia accelerate research and improve patient care for Australians affected by brain cancer.
