Brain Cancer Australia 10th Anniversary

On Thursday, 20 November, we celebrated a milestone — Brain Cancer Australia’s 10th anniversary.

"What began ten years ago with a simple but transformational idea — that breakthroughs in brain cancer depend on national collaboration and the right infrastructure — has grown into a consortium of more than 100 clinicians and researchers working together across the country to change the future of this disease," said Robyn Leonard, Founder and Director, Brain Cancer Australia.

Our anniversary dinner, generously hosted by MA Financial Group brought together partners, clinicians, researchers and supporters who share our vision for more brain cancer breakthroughs – faster.

Mark Nelson, Chair of the MA Foundation, opened the evening and Kim Williams, Chair of the ABC, joined Nine Weekend Today host Alison Piotrowski for a conversation on a wide range of topics - including Kim's personal connection to the cause.

We were also joined by special guests Prof Richard Scolyer and Dr Katie Nicoll.

As our founder Robyn Leonard reminded us at the event, the star of the show and the person who inspired Brain Cancer Australia — her daughter Lucie — was not there to mark this moment.

Lucie died from brain cancer 13 years ago this week. Her story is reminder of the urgency of our mission.

Brain Cancer Australia was founded to close one of the biggest gaps in brain cancer research: the lack of nationally coordinated systems to speed up discoveries and improve patient care.

Today, that vision has become three national platforms that will give everyone who can help defeat brain cancer what they need to do it.

"Brain Cancer Australia is unique – not only in Australia but the world – operating nationally, focusing on collaboration and infrastructure, and working from the ground up to drive the breakthroughs that we so desperately need in brain cancer," said Robyn Leonard.
