Please help to accelerate brain cancer research
Each year two local
schools, St Roch’s and St Marys, hold an annual netball and football game.
Each year a different charity is chosen and this year it is Brain Cancer
Research which is close to the heart of one of the dads at St Rochs (Rory
Stewart).
No doubt others in the community would have also been affected by it at some
stage.
ABOUT LUKE
Luke Bullock and I became friends in year 10 when he switched schools to the
same one I already went to.
A few years later, in year 12, we won a schoolboy Rugby premiership together.
We then went on to play club Rugby together at the Melbourne Rugby Club in
Prahran.
We played in a further two Grand Finals which we unfortunately lost.
What we didn’t lose was our friendships, and many of the players from this club
are all still great mates to this day.
Luke and I continued our friendship after Rugby finished and have been like
brothers since.
Luke was the MC at my recent 50th birthday and was one of my closest, if not
closest, mates.
Just shy of 3 years ago Luke was diagnosed with stage 4 Gioblastoma (GBM) Brain
Cancer. He was given 6 months to live.
He fought hard, which gave us a few extra years with him which we were all so
grateful for.
Sadly he lost his battle on Wednesday the 12th of August 2026.
It was inspirational to see the strength and dignity he displayed through this
incredibly challenging time for him and his family.
Luke is survived by his partner Katie, their 2 young boys, Lachie (10) and Jack
(5), his two sisters Nikki and Sarah, and his parents Leighton and
Judi, as well as many other wider family members and friends.
Luke was an amazing dad, and very heavily involved in his local school and
sporting community.
Whilst we can’t help Luke any longer, through this St Rochs / St Mary’s annual
Netball and Football day, we hope to help raise some funds for, and awareness
of, this disease, and hope it can help with research that will
hopefully help those that are affected by it in the future.
